In 2002, the area where this industrial park is now located suffered from land subsidence and seawater intrusion due to mining activities, and the land was severely saline-alkaline, rendering it unsuitable for agriculture. Over time, it became Longkou's largest garbage dump with foul odors, wastewater flowing unchecked and mosquitoes and flies thriving. No one wanted to come.

In order to rejuvenate this land, Longkou City, in collaboration with relevant companies, initiated a land reclamation project. They put a stop to illegal excavation and land occupation within the project area and refilled the subsided land, rendering it suitable for reuse. They planted vegetation on the damaged or degraded land to prevent soil erosion and soil pollution. Engineering measures were also applied to rehabilitate the damaged land, restore the original landscape, and establish the new ecological virtuous cycle.

Restoration that lasted for many years gave the place a new look. According to relevant policies, Dawn Group has built Dawn New Materials Science and Technology Industrial Park on the renovated land to continue to restore the natural ecology and establish an industrial ecology. The "natural ecology and industrial ecology" are integrated and developed to achieve ecological benefits, economic benefits and social benefits. At present, nearly 30 companies of various types have settled in the industrial park.

On this land, the reporter saw lakes, bridges, and green grass, as well as residential areas nearby. There are tall street trees on both sides of the straight road, and there are many company factories on both sides of the road, which are in good order.

Walking into the product showrooms of various companies in the industrial park, a dazzling array of products made of new materials, from aerospace, automotive and transportation profiles, medical and health care, home appliances and communication equipment parts to daily household items can be found. In front of a plastic bag, a staff member explained that in a composting environment, this plastic bag could completely decompose into water and carbon dioxide within 180 days. Now all countries around the world have realized the harm of white pollution to the ecological environment, and the promotion of fully biodegradable plastics is a major trend. In the future, the market demand for eco-friendly new materials such as degradable food containers, plates, utensils, straws, and agricultural mulch will continue to grow.

Focusing on new materials and other industrial chains, Municipal Committee of Longkou City has appointed more than 700 enterprise service specialists to visit enterprises on a regular basis. Through "point-to-point" and "face-to-face" coordination, they worked hard to solve the congestion and pain points of enterprises' investment, production and operation, release policy dividends, help enterprises relieve difficulties, help enterprises introduce talents, and store energy for future development.

With the assistance of relevant departments in Longkou, Beijing University of Chemical Technology, South China University of Technology, and other universities have been partners of the Dawn New Materials Science and Technology Industrial Park. Several research achievements have already entered the application market.
